A Vision Assistant is someone who assists an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) with patient care. He performs a variety of clinical responsibilities linked to the eyes. Ophthalmic assistants aid ophthalmologists in patient care by taking histories, making and fixing spectacles, performing procedures and tests, and preparing patients for appointments. Their work provides crucial information to ophthalmologists in order to diagnose and treat patients.
Apart from aiding an Optometrist, they also assist patients with contact lens insertion and maintenance, examination room preparation, knowledge of the human eye's structure, and numerous disorders and infections affecting eyes.
